Tamales are complicated and time consuming. It even takes several people to do it! Therefore, they are reserved for special occasions.

The most common tamales are filled with pork and cooked in a chili sauce. But there are also dessert tamales filled with pineapple and raisins.

What to serve with tamales

 

1. Eggs and Salsa

The tamales are delicious on their own, but it’s not a bad idea to add a few decorations.

The simple topping of fried eggs gives your tamales a flavor as rich as umami. The golden yolk running through your tamale? That’s great.

Elote is a popular street food in Mexico. A grilled corn on the cob, but with more flavorful ingredients. It’s delicious, savory and goes well with tamales!

 

Take the corn cob and grill it for 6-10 minutes. While you wait, make a mixture of mayonnaise, chili powder, black pepper and garlic salt. Cut this mixture into the corn on the grill.

Sprinkle with cotija cheese and serve with lime wedges on the side. It’s incredible!

 

11. Dessert: Mexican wedding cookies

For dessert, we have the traditional Mexican wedding cookies. These delicate balls are soft, buttery and full of nutty deliciousness!
