What to Serve with Taco Soup: 6 Cozy Sides

Nothing can warm you up more on a cold, rainy night than a rich, hearty bowl of taco soup. This is a Mexican dish with lots of flavor and texture from a combination of beef, beans, corn, tomatoes, taco seasoning and more.

The best part? It’s easy to do! Throw all these ingredients into the pan, cook for 30 minutes, and the dish is ready to eat.

And because it’s so easy, make some side dishes to go with your soup. Turn your simple dinner into a festive celebration by serving taco soup with one of these side dishes.

1. Corn bread

Because the taco soup is so rich, you’ll probably want a spongy bread to soak up all that creamy base! Add a soft, buttery corn bread and you have a fun and functional meal.

Cornbread may be a southern dish, but it goes very well with this Mexican soup. Not just the taste, but the taste of cornbread, which makes it easy to get full.

2. Chips and Salsa

While our first entry is completely southern, this one is definitely Mexican!

The chips and salsa are a great accompaniment to this savory soup. You can also use some of the taco soup and chips for a nacho effect.

What I love about chips and salsa is that it requires no effort except opening a bag of chips and a box of salsa.

3. Mexican rice

If you want a complete meal, choose rice. Nothing makes you feel fuller than this Mexican main course.

And while steamed white rice is more than capable of satisfying hunger, it can be a little bland. Add flavor to the main dish by mixing it with lime and cilantro.

Or why not make a complete Mexican feast by preparing Mexican rice? Preparation: Brown rice in oil, mix with chicken broth, garlic, onions, tomatoes and tomato sauce. It’s so simple, but full of flavor!

4. Stuffed potato skins

Potatoes are the perfect side dish. There are many different dishes you can make with this humble crop, but for taco soup I definitely recommend stuffed potatoes. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and full of flavour.

They are also easy to prepare! Simply cut a large potato in half and remove the seeds with a spoon. Pre-cook the potatoes in the microwave for 7 minutes. Brush them with butter and grill them for 5 minutes skin side up.

Turn them over and grill for another 3 minutes. All you have to do is fill the crispy sheets with fresh cream, onions and bacon.

5. Turn

Soup and salad have always been a great combination. There’s nothing like a bowl of crisp, refreshing salad to balance out the richness of the taco soup.

Plus, with a light and nutritious salad on the table, you’ll feel less guilty about eating such a rich and hearty meal!

You can choose all kinds of greens, vegetables, proteins, nuts and cheese for your salad. For sauces, I recommend using a spicy dressing. The taco salad is already so rich, you don’t want to overwhelm your palate with another creamy element.

A simple balsamic vinaigrette certainly tastes great, but here’s something more exciting: a blueberry vinaigrette. It’s easy to make, just mix fresh blueberries, balsamic vinegar and white vinegar until you have a smooth mixture. Yummy!

6. Annexes

Taco soup is 100% Mexican, so of course you need all kinds of Mexican toppings. Make your dinner even more fun by serving it with extra platters of toppings for you and your friends to choose from.

To make taco soup like a real taco, add taco shells, tortilla chips, or corn chips! The texture combination of crispy potatoes and tender soup is to die for.

As for the taste, you can make your taco soup creamier and spicier by adding a dash of sour cream.

Tacos are delicious with guacamole, so it makes sense to add that to your taco soup. This adds an extra dimension of creaminess and earthiness to your soup, a combination that can never go wrong.

Preparation: Puree avocado, cilantro, jalapenos, tomatoes and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper and you’re done. If you’re feeling a little lazy, just add some avocado slices to the soup!

Add some Mexican chili to your soup by adding a few chopped jalapenos. For more color and earthiness, add a little cilantro to the soup.

Finally, one more element that should never be missed: Cheese. Every thick soup needs dairy, and cheddar cheese is perfect.

Make your taco salad even creamier and tastier with a heaping helping of grated cheese.

Here’s a hint: Instead of buying grated cheese, make it yourself! It is very simple and less expensive.

In addition, the pre-grated cheese is coated with an anti-caking agent. And while it’s perfectly safe, it’s best to use cheese, which is all-natural.
