What to Serve with Meatballs: 13 Tasty Side Dishes

Meatballs are delicious balls of ecstasy, perfect for a simple family dinner or a fun party with friends.

But as delicious as the meatballs are, sometimes it’s hard to find something other than plain spaghetti to eat with them. That’s a shame, because meatballs can be more than a pasta dish.

Meatballs are more than just an appetizer or snack. When cooked and seasoned properly, these little flavor balls can be the star of the meal.

But you’ll probably want to pair them with appropriate side dishes.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to fill your head with ideas, because I’ve done that for you! Whether you want to make Swedish, Italian or grilled meatballs, I’ve got you covered.

Turn your meatball dish into an elaborate feast with these incredible side dishes.

1. Mashed potatoes

Mashed potatoes are a classic combination with meatballs. To make it more interesting, add roasted garlic to the potatoes. This distinct garlic flavor, combined with the sweet, buttery, creamy, cheesy components of the dish, is a perfect combination.

Mashed potatoes are excellent with creamy meatballs, such as Salisbury and Swedish meatballs, but also with meatballs in gravy or mushroom sauce. These flavors also work well with Cranberry Barbecue Meatballs.

2. Baked red potatoes

Potatoes are a great side dish because they are starchy and filling. Besides mashed potatoes, another great way to prepare them is to deep fry them. Roasting brings out the natural flavors of the potato and makes it even more delicious than it already is.

I especially like red baked potatoes. Just chop them up, place them in a baking dish and drizzle generously with olive oil. Season with chopped garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper. Mix well. Then bake at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes. Perfect for busy weekdays and so delicious.

3. Figure

You’ll be surprised how well a simple bowl of steamed white rice goes with your meatballs. Especially meatballs with a creamy or salty sauce.

With a few simple ingredients, you have created a classic, comforting dish. Watch your family devour this meal combo and come back for more!

Asian-style meatballs, such as sweet and sour, Korean, honey garlic and turkey meatballs, are also delicious with rice.

4. Egg noodles

I know meatballs are usually served on spaghetti. But why not shake it up a little?

One of my favorite combinations is Swedish meatballs in cream sauce over egg noodles. It’s a simple meal that the whole family will agree on.

5. Udon

Udon are Japanese noodles made from wheat flour. Give it a nice Thai touch by mixing it with a peanut sauce – what a delicious fusion of Asian flavors. These peanut butter noodles are perfect with Thai meatballs.

6. meatball sub

In a world where we’ve turned almost everything into a sandwich, this is probably one of my favorites. Juicy meatballs covered with cheese and marinara sauce. It couldn’t be better.

Make sure you use a thick, crusty bread that can withstand those meatballs. Otherwise, you may end up with a wet mess. Hoagie’s baguettes and French rolls work well.

If you’re serving Greek meatballs, have some bread and make pita pockets. Toasted baguette is best for Buffalo meatballs. If you make meatballs with tomato sauce and cheese, use them to make a sub. You can make sliders out of barbecued meatballs. Add honey mustard sauce and pickles and you have a burger that will make your mouth water.

7. Maize on the cob

Not just any corn cob. Coat the corn with oil and season with various spices. This side dish is perfect for grilled meatballs.

8. Ratatouille

If you’re in the mood for vegetables, this dish is for you. This vegetable stew combines zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, bell pepper and mascarpone cheese. I’m telling you, this nutritious dish is so delicious that even your kids will love it. The ratatouille is accompanied by Italian meatballs, you guessed it.

9. Green beans

Green beans are a classic in Chinese cuisine. Asian-inspired meatballs, like sweet and sour meatballs, go well with it. This healthy, crunchy vegetable is very easy to prepare, perfect for any busy day.

10. Asparagus

Talk about long, thin greens: Asparagus also goes well with meatballs: Swedish meatballs, I mean. Swedish meatballs are rich and creamy, and this sauce works wonders when paired with a crunchy veggie sauce.

To prepare, mix asparagus with butter and lemon. And then, instead of going to the trouble of making a sauce or baking it, you can microwave it!

11. broccoli

This helmet is one of the easiest to make on this list. Season the broccoli with garlic and lemon and you’re done! Garlic and lemon help turn a rather mild vegetarian flavor into a savory and tasty dish. Pair it with Hawaiian meatballs for a lively, tropical dinner.

You can also make this side dish into a vegetable blend by adding cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. These vegetables taste great with traditional flavours, so serve them with BBQ, Salisbury or Swedish meatballs.

12. Turn

There’s probably no dish that doesn’t go well with a salad. Salads make a heavy meal lighter and more nutritious. And no matter what meatball you serve, there’s at least one salad that goes well with it.

When making Asian meatballs, a nice side dish is a green salad with an Asian dressing, such as. B. a Thai salad with chopped dressing.

If you prefer classic spaghetti and meatballs or a spicy Italian-flavored meatball, opt for a mixed green salad with a variety of leaves.

Do you speak Greek? Serve with chopped Greek salad on the side.

The spicy coleslaw goes well with the Buffalo meatballs.

Barbecued meatball dinner? Serve it with a spicy black bean salsa!

13. Spaghetti

You can never go wrong with a classic. I encourage you to explore all the delicious side dishes on this list. But it would be remiss of me to leave out the classic meatballs and spaghetti.

Plus, it always reminds me of one of my favorite movies: Lady and the Tramp.

Whether you’re cooking a romantic dinner or just a dinner party with the kids, spaghetti is always a hit.

Make a little more and you’ll have delicious leftovers to last through the evening. The spaghetti can be kept in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.

I also like to keep them in the freezer. Then if I don’t want to cook for a while, I can just take it out of the freezer in the morning. Leave it on the counter and it’s ready for dinner!

Side bearing

Serving meatballs with a side dish is fine, but I often like to mix different side dishes! Especially when I have to serve a bunch of hungry guests. For a grilled meatball, serve with avocado slices, coleslaw and fries.

If you are going for a German theme, you can prepare grilled meatballs and serve them with sauerkraut and potato salad. These side dishes have a pleasant spiciness that goes well with the smoked meatballs.

Here’s an interesting idea: Turn a regular meatball night into bonfire night! Serve the meatballs with a trio of side dishes your guests won’t be able to resist: baked beans, coleslaw and baked potatoes. Yummy!

When it comes to a simple dinner with friends, the combination of mashed potatoes and green beans with meatballs is more than enough to keep your guests full and satisfied.

If you’re desperate for comfort food, meatballs with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and garlic bread are perfect.

Would you like to add an Asian touch to your dinner? Make (or buy) noodles and add Korean BBQ meatballs, and serve with roasted vegetables.
