My favorite chicken meatballs are served at Cracker Barrel, the king of comfort food. But you can also make this rich, creamy dish at home for the whole family to enjoy.

And while this dish is delicious on its own. Turn a hearty soup into a memorable meal with these classic side dishes.

1. Corn bread

Cornbread and soup go perfectly together. And the same goes for chicken and dumplings. Soft, buttery cornbread is the perfect way to soak up this creamy soup. These two southern dishes are heavenly.

2. Fresh green salad

We all know that chicken and dumplings are not very healthy and do not contain many calories. It contains healthy ingredients, but it is quite greasy due to the cream. So it’s best to combine it with something healthy and light.

And what better nutritional supplement than a fresh green salad? Not only is it healthy and delicious, but it adds a crunchy contrast to the soup. Plus, it’s so easy to pick up!

You can use whatever herbs, nuts, vegetables and cheeses you like, but I suggest garnishing them with a tangy dressing. The chicken and dumplings are already so rich, you need a little savory to break up the umami flavor.

3. Brussels sprouts

Would you believe me if I told you that I find brussels sprouts a comfort food? Sure, I hated her when I was younger, but that wasn’t her fault!

Now that I’m older, I’ve learned that the secret to soft, crispy Brussels sprouts lies in proper preparation.

Try roasting them for 20-40 minutes and I’m sure you’ll change your mind, like I did. Oh, and did I mention they are fantastic with chicken and dumplings?

4. Green beans

Green beans are not only crunchy and nutritious, they also add a nice pop of color to your meal. Green beans can always be steamed, but they are even tastier when seasoned with balsamic vinegar, chicken stock, sugar, onions and butter. I like it.

5. Fried okra

Fried okra is not only delicious, it also adds a crunchy surprise to the tender ingredients in your soup.

How do you cook a vegetarian dish? Start by dipping the raw dyes into the corn dough. Then bake those guys until they’re golden brown. It may seem like a lot of effort, but I promise it’s worth it.

6. Grape salad

Here’s another refreshing page of great fruit. Grapes are not only suitable for producing juice and wine. They also make a great salad that goes well with the chicken and dumplings.

And it’s easy to prepare, too. All you need is a mixture of sour cream, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Cover the grapes with this fantastic mixture and put them in the fridge for an hour. Just before serving, sprinkle with pecans and brown sugar.

7. Baked apples

Sometimes a creamy soup needs a sweet accompaniment to balance out the richness. For me, there is nothing better than a simple apple dish. This gives the soup not only a sweet contrast, but also a nice crunch.

And you don’t have to be an expert in the kitchen to do it. Simply combine sliced apples and sugar (brown or white) in a saucepan. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the apples from sticking to the pan.

Add more sugar and cinnamon and cook for another 5 minutes and voila! A deliciously sweet site.

8. Corn pudding

Along with the roasted apples, the corn pudding pairs well with the chicken and dumplings. This grainy pudding is soft, milky, creamy and very tasty. Its slight sweetness contrasts with the richness of the soup, giving you a balanced meal.

9. Fashionable cakes

If you’re a sweet tooth like me, it’s impossible to finish a meal without dessert. I love an equally comfortable chicken and dumpling dessert. And what could be more comforting than fashionable cakes?

Imagine a warm, moist, decadent cake topped with a scoop of cold, sweet vanilla ice cream.

The combination of hot and cold gives you a delicious explosion in your mouth! Isn’t that the perfect way to end a meal?

10. Chocolate mousse

There’s nothing like a decadent dessert to round off a rich and creamy dinner.

Chocolate mousse is another treat that evokes decadence. What I love most about it is that it tastes great no matter how you prepare it. Whether it’s light and airy or thick and creamy, it’s always fantastic.

11. Banana pudding

If you’re not a fan of chocolate, there are other sweet ways to finish your dinner with chicken and dumplings.

A delicious way to serve and enjoy banana pudding. It is a sweet and refreshing dessert that consists of layers of pudding, cookies and ripe bananas. A great way to finish off your incredible dinner.

12. Fruit salad

If you feel guilty about serving a sinful dessert, this last option is for you. Just chop up your favorite fruits like peaches, mangoes and grapes, throw them in a bowl and you’re done!

You can also drizzle honey or syrup over the fruit to give it a sweeter taste. I also like to put Greek yogurt in mine to make it a little sour.

Which sides go well with Cornish Hens?

Supplements

Do you cover the Cornish chickens while cooking?

Roast the chicken uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour (if the chicken weighs more than 1 pound and 2 ounces, 1 hour and 15 minutes) or until the internal temperature of a thermometer inserted into the thigh reaches 180°F. 6. Increase the temperature to 400°F for the last 10 minutes to brown.

Do you wash Cornish chickens before cooking them?

There is no difference between cleaning and preparing. The packaging may be different. Cornish muffs are usually sold whole and so need time to thaw. Defrosting all types of poultry takes some preparation.
